The road to cure
for Blood cancers
Connecting expertise. Accelerating
innovation. Saving lives
Every day, around 65 Australians are diagnosed with a blood cancer.
For patients with aggressive leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, CAR T-cell therapy offers new hope by harnessing the patient’s own immune system to destroy cancer cells.
Yet for too many Australians, this potentially life-saving treatment remains out of reach.
With treatment costs exceeding $500,000 and reliance on overseas manufacturing, fewer than 10% of Australian patients who could benefit from CAR T-cell therapy receive funded access.
Many patients must first exhaust multiple other treatments before becoming eligible.
For too many patients, that opportunity comes too late.
Israel’s innovative health system is demonstrating that CAR T-cell therapies can be produced locally at a dramatically lower cost.
Connecting expertise. Accelerating innovation.
Israeli expertise in development, manufacturing and clinical delivery of CAR T-cell therapy and other cell therapies offers Australia an opportunity to accelerate its own capabilities and improve patient access.
The Snowdome Foundation is driving a roadmap to accelerate access to Australian-made CAR T-cell therapies.
AUSiMED’s role
Through the Australia–Israel Cell Therapy Knowledge Exchange Program, AUSiMED will facilitate and support fellowships that connect Australian doctors and medical researchers with world-leading Israeli experts, enabling the transfer of knowledge, skills and innovation needed to strengthen Australia’s cellular therapy capabilities.
